The tournament joins the US and Australian Opens in implementing replay systems.
Replay systems will be launched at Wimbledon in the upcoming tournament.
Athletes will gain the option to contest particular calls made by the official, following the system already in place at both the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.
This technology will be accessible on Centre Court and the number one court throughout the tournament and on the other four show courts when they are staging singles matches.
This move arrives only a season following the All England Club rolled out ELC, which effectively ended the 147-year role of line officials.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Players will not be permitted to challenge the call of the electronic line calling, but they can ask for the official to review other situations, including:
- Whether a ball has bounced twice.
- If a ball made contact with an opponent's racquet or person on the way past.
- Potential hindrance end of a point.
Notably, there will be no limit on the amount of reviews a competitor can request.
A Recent Example
An illustrative incident took place in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the video challenge against Jack Draper.
Draper admitted it was a tough situation for the official, but thought his rival had "played the rules effectively."
The umpire watched a replay and determined the player was responsible for hindrance, awarding the rally to his opponent.
Wider Implementation
Video reviews aren't exclusive to major tournaments. The system was adopted at the American major since 2023 and the Aussie Open this year.
Additionally, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by next season the men's ATP Tour plans to have video reviews in place at every one of its tournaments.
Further Updates
A further innovation at Wimbledon 2025 will be the addition of visual indicators on scoreboards to support the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.
This addresses instances where fans have occasionally been uncertain if a ball was in or out.
In other news, with precisely a century of days remaining until the start of the tournament, organizers have also announced an increase in daily attendance at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
